Nail problem after a foot injury in a young man – suspected mycosis and foot care
Good morning,
My name is Alan, I'm 19 years old and I'm a young man. I ask for professional advice on a problem with a toenail after an injury.
Some time ago, I suffered an injury to my toe, as a result of which the nail fell off. Currently, a new nail has grown, but I notice worrying symptoms:
the skin around the nail often peels and is reddened,
the new nail grows differently than before (it has a changed shape),
The front part of the nail has a slightly brown color.
I'm afraid it could be mycosis of the nail or the skin around the nail.
I would like to ask:
How to properly care for nails and skin of the feet in such a situation?
What over-the-counter preparations (e.g. varnishes, creams, sprays) can be used prophylactically or curatively in case of suspected nail fungus?
In the case of scaly skin around the nail, is it worth using scrubs or special exfoliating preparations from the pharmacy?
What active ingredients (e.g. antifungals) are most effective for such symptoms?
When is it necessary to visit a dermatologist or podiatrist?
I care about tips on proper foot care and prevention of further development of a possible infection.
Thank you in advance for your help and time.
Best regards,
Alan
