Can a meal containing flaxseed weaken the effectiveness of birth control pills?

Can food containing flaxseed interfere with contraceptive pills? It was only after eating that I realized

It all depends on the amount of flaxseed that will be consumed and on the time interval in taking the pill. If it is a small amount - a dozen or so grains sprinkled, e.g. on porridge or yogurt, it will not affect the effectiveness of contraception. However, if we add, for example, a tablespoon of grains or consume them in the form of gruel to drink, this amount may be important, because flaxseed produces mucus, which covers the membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, hindering the absorption of substances from tablets protecting against pregnancy. Taking birth control pills does not exclude eating meals containing flaxseed. You should simply separate these two activities in time, e.g. eat a meal first and take a pill after 2-4 hours. And does eating a biscuit with flaxseed in it 2 hours after taking a Vines pill reduce the effectiveness of vines tablets?

And that's the specific answer I was expecting. Thank you very much. Best regards 🙂

To @Nikitka:

Since you took 2 tablespoons of flaxseed an hour after taking the tablet, I recommend using additional protection for the next 7 days.

Nikitka (Anonymous, 31.0.77.) 4 months ago

Thank you for your reply. If anything, it was 2 tablespoons of ground seeds poured over warm water. However, I still don't know if I should protect myself or not.

To @Nikitka:

In the case of consuming larger amounts of flaxseed (2-3 tablespoons), it is worth keeping an interval of at least 2 hours from medication. In the case of smaller amounts, there is no need to keep a time interval - such an amount will not significantly affect the absorption of hormones from the tablets.

Welcome. I went back to using pills after 10 years. I take the first pill (Vibin mini) on the first day of the cycle. However, I probably (I just don't remember it) drank flaxseed within an hour, having absolutely no idea that it could impair absorption. I found out about it after taking the second pill at the right time. So I didn't miss any. I also had neither vomiting nor diarrhea. What to do in such a situation? Do you have to protect yourself for 7 days or for the entire first blister? Best regards

To @Wioletta: You can drink flaxseed gruel at 7:00 and take birth control pills at 19:00. This will not interfere with the absorption of hormones and the effect of contraception. The "protective shell" on the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract persists 2-4 hours after drinking gruel.

Good morning I would like to drink flaxseed. Grain gruel. In the morning at 7:00 drink flaxseed, and contraception take at 19:00. Will this interfere with contraception? How long does the coating in the intestines that flaxseed covers them?

To @ratatuja: No, it will not affect the way birth control pills work.

So if for breakfast (11) I eat porridge with linseed and I take a tablet at 22, there is no problem?

To @Zwariowa I was asking: Eating corn wafers with flaxseed will not impair the absorption of birth control pills.

What about corn wafers that have flaxseed in their composition 5 hours before taking the tablet?

Paulina (Anonymous, 31.0.80.) 3 years ago
