Hello, December 11 I had sex with a boy without a condom, he did not end up in me but there was a droplet, unfortunately the day before I forgot about the tablet that I took after 12 hours, after intercourse somehow 2/3 hours later I took an additional pill the day after, is there a chance that the protection was maintained and did not issue fertilization?

Taking the contraceptive pill with a delay of 12 hours, for each type of preparation, will result in no protection against conception for the next 7 days from the date of omission and up to a week before. During this time, to protect against pregnancy, additional protective methods should be used, e.g. mechanical in the form of a condom. The morning-after pill, i.e. postcoital contraception, never gives 100% certainty. On the other hand - the sooner taken after intercourse, the greater the chances of "success". Two preparations are available in Poland: Escapelle or EllaOne. These tablets mainly have two mechanisms of action: they prevent ovulation and/or block the implantation of the embryo in the uterus. They may not be effective (Escapelle) if ovulation occurred before taking the tablet. Intercourse is not a method of contraception - sperm are also in the preejacuate (i.e. in the "fluid" that appears before ejaculation) and they are capable of fertilization. After using emergency contraception, it is recommended to use additional methods of contraception during possible intercourse, until the end of the current menstrual cycle. If menstruation does not occur or any abnormalities appear - a delay of more than 7 days and abnormal bleeding - the possibility of pregnancy should be excluded.
