Will the accidental removal of NuvaRing for two days impair contraceptive efficacy?

The information in the summary of product characteristics indicates a risk of reducing the efficacy of NuvaRing. I suggest you consult your gynaecologist (you may need to use emergency contraception).

Below is the procedure to be followed in the event of accidental removal of NuvaRing:

"What to do when NuvaRing is temporarily outside the vagina:

If you suspect or are certain that NuvaRing has been outside your vagina for more than 3 hours during the third week of use, the contraceptive effectiveness of the NuvaRing vaginal therapeutic system may be reduced. The patient should discard this vaginal therapeutic system and choose one of the following two solutions:

1. Put on your new NuvaRing Vaginal Therapy System as soon as possible

Note: When you start a new vaginal therapy system, you start the next three-week treatment period. This may result in the absence of the expected withdrawal bleeding. However, spotting or mid-cycle bleeding may occur.

2. Wait until withdrawal bleeding occurs and insert a new vaginal therapy system, no later than 7 days (7×24 hours) after the removal or spontaneous loss of the previous NuvaRing vaginal therapeutic system.

Note: The above procedure can only be taken if NuvaRing has been
continuously for the last 7 days.

The possibility of pregnancy should be considered if the NuvaRing vaginal therapeutic system has been outside the vagina for an unknown period of time. A pregnancy test should be performed prior to insertion of a new vaginal therapeutic system."
