Good morning, if the result of the tsh test is normal, is there a need to do the ft3 and ft4 test? I wanted to ask because I stopped taking birth control pills 5 months ago and my period came back right away, but it is quite long. Somehow 3 days I have such an abundant and now it is the 8th day and I have such a delicate brown spotting literally droplets, like the tip. Could that be the case? I have nothing to fear?

The basic test assessing the work of the thyroid gland is the assessment of the level of the thyrotropic hormone - TSH. The level of TSH results directly from changes in the concentration of free thyroid hormones (T3 and T4). For example, TSH increases when thyroxine and triiodothyronine are too low. Therefore, in general, additional tests (fT3 and fT4, antibodies or biochemistry) are performed when something causes concern as a result of the basic TSH test. On the other hand, diagnostics are directed by a doctor who needs to be shown the result. Perhaps he will decide that it is worth doing additional research in your individual case. The menstrual cycle is considered regular and normal if it lasts 28 days (plus/minus 5 days and the number of days of the cycle is about the same in subsequent cycles), blood loss ranges from about 50 to about 80 ml and ovulation occurs. Menstruation, i.e. cyclical bleeding from the genital tract, should last on average from 3 to 7-8 days. However, deviations can happen without a tangible reason. Physiological menstruation is more severe in the first days, after which it is transformed into spotting, which, due to the slower outflow of blood, may be brown in color, after which it disappears.
