I plan to use Nuvaring today. I was only a week late. Can it somehow affect its operation? And should I put it on with minimal bleeding or after a few hours with a larger one? Of course, just in case, I will wait a week with intercourse.

Nuvaring should be assumed on the first day of menstruation - preferably immediately after observing the vivid red bleeding characteristic of the onset of menstruation. The point is not to wait for a very large amount of blood, but to recognize the beginning of the period for which it is appropriate for blood to flow out of the vagina. Here, every woman should rely on her own experience and self-observation. Some ladies before menstruation have scanty brown spotting, which is not yet proper bleeding and is not treated as the beginning of the cycle. The delay of the period by a week is not relevant to the effectiveness of the method, as long as the bleeding has a normal course (it is about excluding pregnancy). If you are just starting to use Nuvaring, using 7 days of sexual abstinence or using an additional condom may be a good idea if you have any doubts about whether you have started the method correctly.
