The doctor for anxiety disorders prescribed me the drug aciprex initially for 10 days of half a tablet then increase to the whole 10mg and for this mirtor 7.5 mg. Do these drugs not interact? I know that both work on serotonin and I am afraid of serotonin syndrome. How to distinguish serotonin syndrome with the initial side effects of the drug aciprex, because I know that these are quite similar symptoms? Best regards

The combined use of more serious drugs may be therapeutically beneficial, but the patient should be closely monitored for signs of toxicity during the use of such a combination. Serotonin syndrome can develop when there are too many amounts of one of the neurotransmitters – serotonin – in the structures of the central nervous system. Serotonin syndrome in a situation where antidepressants are taken in the right doses and under medical supervision, occurs very rarely. The onset of the syndrome may occur when the patient overdoses on antidepressants. Another possible cause of serotonin syndrome is taking antidepressants along with other agents that also affect the amount of serotonin in the central nervous system, e.g. antitussives (e.g. dextromethorphan), agents used to treat migraine headaches (such as triptans), analgesics (such as tramadol or pethidine), drugs such as amphetamines or some legal highs. Serotonin syndrome is manifested m.in confusion, agitation, fever, sweating, ataxia, hyperreflexia, muscle clonic seizures and diarrhea. This condition is distinguished by the so-called triad of symptoms, which includes: 1. Vegetative disorders, i.e. an increase in blood pressure, fever, diarrhea, vomiting and mydriasis. 2. Psychiatric symptoms, consisting of anxiety disorders, feelings of anxiety and confusion. 3. Neuromuscular ailments, i.e. recurrent cramps, pain and increased muscle tone. It is worth being aware of the effects of simultaneous use of these drugs, so that if disturbing symptoms are observed, the patient can associate the symptoms with the fact of combining specific substances and go to the doctor: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/blog/jak-telefoniczne-otrzymac-recepte-i-zwolnienie-lekarskie I send materials that may be useful: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/czy-bac-sie-dzialan-niepozadanych-lekow https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/czy-mozna-laczyc-leki-ze-soba
