After several times of diarrhoea and taking an additional Atywia tablet, has contraceptive protection been maintained?
12.99 zł

On Thursday around 8 p.m., I had three watery stools. At 11:30 p.m., I took the Atywia pill and went to bed. On Friday, around 6:30 a.m., watery stools appeared again, after which I took a spare Atiwia pill in case the previous one didn't have time to be absorbed. The next and last watery stool appeared that day around 3:30 p.m. Will the protection of the pills be maintained?

To @Autor:

If more than 7 hours have elapsed since taking the pill to the onset of loose stools and the diarrhea has not been prolonged, the contraceptive protection has been maintained.

I encourage you to read our article on relieving diarrhea symptoms:

The question says that 7 hours have passed since taking the pill for diarrhea. Was the protection maintained?

If you develop watery stools within about 3-4 hours of taking the tablet, the medicine may not have had time to be fully absorbed, so you have done the right thing by taking an extra tablet. As further diarrhoea occurred later, it should no longer affect the absorption of this dose.

With a one-time situation and a quick refill of the pill, contraceptive protection is usually maintained. However, for safety, you can use an additional method (e.g. a condom) for the next 7 days, especially if this is the beginning of a blister. If diarrhea recurs or lasts longer than a day, it is worth treating each day as a missed pill and considering contacting a doctor.
