In most cases, it is not recommended to start contraception during the cycle. Starting to take the pills in the middle of a cycle is only recommended for women who have irregular, long cycles.
If, despite everything, you have started taking the pill at a different point in your cycle than the first day of your period, it will take a week for the contraceptive effect to fully appear. For the first 7 days, you should use an additional barrier method of contraception, e.g. a condom. Doing so may also cause mid-cycle bleeding or spotting while taking the tablets, and bleeding will only occur when taking the white placebo tablets.
