Good morning. Is Vetira (levetiracetam) a photosensitizing drug? I would like to perform a fractional laser treatment and hence my question. Until recently, I was taking Tegretol at a dose of 200 a day, but I found information that carbamazepine is photosensitizing. Please let me know how it is in the case of Vetira, I will be taking a dose of 500 in the morning and 500 in the evening?

Yes, levetiracetam, the active ingredient in Vetira and a drug mainly used to treat epilepsy, has the potential to cause photosensitisation in some people. Photosensitization means that a person may become more sensitive to sunlight or artificial light, which can lead to skin reactions or irritation as a result of exposure to light.
However, not every person using levetiracetam experiences photosensitizing effects, and in some patients this may be minimal or non-existent. This effect may also depend on individual sensitivity to the drug and the dose used. Nevertheless, I would recommend that you refrain from laser treatments for the duration of the drug therapy, or at least consult this issue with your doctor.
