These drugs - Symfaxin and Citalopram have a similar effect, so when used at the same time, they can cause an excessive increase in serotonin levels in the brain, which may lead to disorders known as serotonin syndrome.
Serotonin syndrome is manifested by, m.in, confusion, agitation, fever, sweating, ataxia, hyperreflexia, muscle clonic seizures and diarrhea. This condition is distinguished by the so-called triad of symptoms, which include:
- Vegetative disorders, i.e. increase in blood pressure, fever, diarrhea, vomiting and mydriasis.
- Psychiatric symptoms, consisting of anxiety disorders, feelings of restlessness and confusion.
- Neuromuscular ailments, i.e. recurrent cramps, pain and increased muscle tension.
If medicines have been prescribed by different doctors, a consultation is necessary to determine whether these medicines can be used at the same time and, if so, whether it is necessary to change the recommendations on how to administer them. If the medication is prescribed by the same doctor, please follow the dosage schedule carefully. If you experience vomiting, headaches, dizziness, fever, high blood pressure, seizures, hallucinations or other worrying symptoms, contact your doctor.
If it is not possible to visit the site, I encourage you to take advantage of the teleconsultation via e.g. the Gdziepolek.pl portal:
