Hello, at the visit to the gynecologist I was diagnosed with a tiny uterine polyp. The doctor prescribed me atyvia daily for 4 months. He says it should disappear. I wanted to consult if this is reasonable and well prescribed? Is this medicine used for treatment in these types of cases?

A polyp is an overgrown fragment of the endometrium (endometrium). It is believed that they arise against the background of fluctuations in sex hormones. In the case of a slightly thickened endometrium, sometimes the first therapeutic proposal is hormonal pills, which are used for several months. Tablets affect the management of estrogens and reduce the growth of the endometrium. In the case of small lesions, this procedure may be rational, because the alternative is surgical removal of the polyp, while this involves putting the patient under anesthesia and staying in the hospital. In cases of suspected endometrial polyp, the procedure of choice in most cases may be hysteroscopy, i.e. a procedure during which you can simultaneously image and remove a polyp. I can provide this information on the basis of my knowledge and from a pharmaceutical point of view, but please take into account that this is not a consultation. If you would like to review the recommendations of your doctor, you should go to another gynecologist, re-evaluate the image of the inside of the uterus and seek a second opinion.
