Hi, can it be that the pregnancy test is done too late, e.g. at 10 weeks from intercourse and thus the concentration of the hormone is very high the result will be negative despite being pregnant? Is it that later the performance of the test is even more reliable?

No, this is not possible. The concentration of beta HCG in pregnancy increases gradually, by the 10th week of pregnancy it is already so high that any test, both laboratory and home from urine, will be reliable.
