Can increasing the dose of Velaxin, while discontinuing Parogen, help with increased anxiety after a recent viral infection?
12.99 zł

Good morning. Due to a mental crisis, my psychiatrist decided to change Parogen to Velaxin. I've been on Velaxin for 5 weeks, currently taking a dose of 113.5mg. There have been days of improvement, but recently I went through a viral infection and it got worse again, the anxiety intensified a lot. Will going on 150mg (of course, after the constellation with my psychiatrist) help me? I'm also still in the process of getting off Parogen, but I'm only taking 5mg of it now.

Yes, increasing the dose of venlafaxine often proves to be crucial in the treatment of anxiety disorders. The dose of 150 mg is often considered therapeutic in the treatment of anxiety and depression, so in some people its increase brings improvement. At this dose, the drug begins to have a stronger effect not only on serotonin, but also on norepinephrine. It is this mechanism that helps many patients to "break" stagnation in treatment and better control anxiety symptoms, but the effect is not always immediate.

It is worth remembering that a viral infection is a heavy burden on the body and can temporarily weaken the effects of psychotropic drugs or intensify anxiety. In addition, you are in the process of discontinuing paroxetine (Parogen) – even a dose as low as 5 mg can cause withdrawal symptoms that overlap with the process of starting a new drug. Increasing the dose of Velaxin should help stabilize this condition, but please remember that the full therapeutic effect of a new dose is usually assessed 2-4 weeks after its introduction.
