Rifaximin (the active substance in Xifaxan) and mesalazine (contained in Asamax) are medicines used to treat various intestinal conditions. Rifaximin is an antibiotic used mainly to treat intestinal infections, while mesalazine is mainly used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).

There are no known significant interactions between rifaximin and mesalazine, and both drugs can be used at the same time, especially if there is a gap of at least 2-3 hours between them.
