Are the tablets Microgynon are they effective and when does their contraceptive effect start?

Is Microgynon 21 an effective contraceptive pill and if we take it for a week, does it protect us from unwanted pregnancy?

Microgynon is a two-component preparation prescribed for contraceptive purposes.
It is effective if taken by the patient according to the schedule given by the manufacturer of the medicine.

The onset of contraceptive action depends on whether you have previously used oral hormonal contraception and switched to Microgynon, or whether this is the first treatment you are taking.

Lack of hormonal contraception in the previous month:

You should start taking the tablets on day 1 of your natural menstrual cycle (i.e. on the first day of your menstrual period). You can also start taking the pills between the 2nd and 5th day of your menstrual cycle; In this case, during the first cycle, it is recommended to use additional barrier contraception for the first 7 days of taking the pills.

Switching tablets to Microgynon:

If you have taken other tablets in the previous month and have switched to Microgynon, your contraception is retained.
