Hormone-releasing intrauterine devices, IUS (intrauterine system), also called hormonal intrauterine devices, are one of the most effective and convenient methods of contraception. Depending on the type of IUD, levonogestrel released from it provides protection against pregnancy for a period of 3 to 6 years. In addition to the contraceptive effect, hormonal intrauterine devices are used to treat abundant and painful menstrual bleeding and in women with endometriosis.
