Good morning. Two years ago, I took Atywia tablets, which significantly contributed to the reduction of acne. I would also like to introduce them now. However, I am afraid because one of the people close to me died of embolism. Should I go for tests to rule out thrombotic diseases? Is the Covid-19 vaccine a contraindication to the use of contraception?

A contraindication to the use of Atywia is, m.in, a known hereditary or acquired predisposition to venous thromboembolism, e.g. resistance to activated protein C (APC) (including factor V Leiden), antithrombin III deficiency, protein C deficiency, protein S deficiency. anticodialipin, lupus anticoagulant). If a loved one belonged to your family and suffered from any of the above diseases, the use of Atyvia is not advisable. If the patient has no history of the above hereditary diseases, but there are other risk factors for venous thromboembolism, this must be discussed with the gynecologist during the selection of the contraceptive. There are hormonal agents, the use of which is associated with a lower risk of venous thromboembolism. These are drugs containing levonorgestrel, norgestimate or norretisterone. The use of preparations with the above substances in the composition may be a solution for patients at risk. Tests that can be performed for the purpose of diagnostics are, for example, the determination of D-dimers, prothrombin time, fibrinogen, morphology, Doppler tests of veins. These are tests ordered by a doctor. The Covid-19 vaccine is not a contraindication to the use of hormonal contraception.
