Antybiotyki, np. Augmentin, mogą zaburzać skład flory bakteryjnej w jelitach, niezbędnej do przekształcania hormonów zawartych we wszystkich rodzajach pigułek do aktywnych form, co ogranicza ich wchłanianie z tabletek do krwi, dlatego mogą obniżać skuteczność tabletek antykoncepcyjnych, w związku z czym - przez cały okres antybiotykoterapii oraz 7 dni po jego zakończeniu należy się dodatkowo zabezpieczać.
