W przypadku niepowodzenia leczenia, psychiatra w oparciu o wywiad z pacjentem może zmodyfikować dawkę leku, wdrożyć dodatkowy lek lub całkowicie zmienić substancję wykorzystywaną w terapii. Oczywiście jest możliwość, że inny produkt będzie lepiej tolerowany i pozwoli na lepszą kontrolę objawów. W tym zakresie najlepiej zaufać doświadczeniu i wyczuciu lekarza.
