System Mirena zakłada się w ciągu 7 dni od wystąpienia krwawienia miesiączkowego. W tych dniach aplikacja jest najłatwiejsza, ponadto krwawienie zasadniczo wyklucza ciążę. O tym, czy możliwe jest założenie systemu w inny dzień cyklu należałoby porozmawiać z lekarzem ginekologiem, który będzie aplikował Mirenę.
