Zgodnie z literaturą, za krótkotrwałe stosowanie leku Encorton podaje się okres kilkunastu dni, maksymalnie do trzech miesięcy. Powyżej tego czasu uznaje się, że lek jest stosowany długotrwale.
Dodatkowo zaznaczono, że podawanie leku w dawce poniżej 40 mg przez okres do 7 dni nie wpływa na zahamowanie osi przysadka-nadnercza i tylko w takim przypadku preparat może być odstawiony nagle. Każda inna kuracja powinna być zakończona przez stopniowe zmniejszanie dawki leku.
