I use hormonal contraception in the form of Ginoring vaginal discs. Due to problems with hormonal acne, the beautician recommended me to supplement with red clover. Can the phytoestrogens contained in it weaken the contraceptive effectiveness of the disc or interact with it undesirablely? Is such a combination safe for hormone-related acne?

Red clover contains phytoestrogens with a weak estrogen-like effect. There is no clear evidence that they weaken the effectiveness of hormonal contraception, but theoretically they can affect hormonal balance.
At the same time, there is a lack of reliable, high-quality studies confirming the effectiveness of red clover in the treatment of acne. Its effect on hormonal acne is ambiguous and probably small. In the case of hormone-related acne, properly selected contraception and dermatological treatment (e.g. retinoids, azelaic acid) are much better documented. It is worth consulting the problem with a dermatologist.
Given the uncertain effectiveness of red clover and the potential, albeit theoretical, risk of interaction, it is wiser to refrain from such supplementation and consult a specialist to select an individual treatment.
