What should I do if I vomit 4 hours after taking the contraceptive pill?
12.99 zł

I have been taking pills for 3 years. I'm on the 3rd week blister, 3rd tablet. Last week I took a pill (it was the last pill of the 2nd week) as usual at 8 pm, but at 00:30 I vomited, vomiting appeared several times during the night - probably poisoning. Later I had sex with a boy, he didn't come to me inside. While taking birth control pills, I got a bleeding without being on placebo yet. Is there a risk of pregnancy? I didn't take an extra pill from the blister.

In the leaflet, the manufacturer gives a range of 3-4 hours, but it is still worth being careful.

However, since, as you mentioned, there was no ejaculation in the vagina – in your particular case there was no risk of pregnancy.

However, the appearance of bleeding earlier than usual may have been the result of improper absorption of the drug on the day of the vomiting. However, this does not mean pregnancy, but may indicate that hormone levels have dropped.

To sum up – there is no reason to worry. Bleeding should regulate with the next cycle.

This situation should be treated as a missed dose. Vomiting within 3-4 hours of taking the tablet may have caused impaired absorption (in this case, an additional dose of the drug should be taken after the vomiting has subsided). In the described case, you should use an additional security method for another week. It is difficult to assess the real risk of pregnancy (interrupted intercourse is not a reliable method of protection against conception). Bleeding may be the result of a missed dose of contraception. You can take a pregnancy test before starting the next pack of pills just to be sure.

In case of any doubts, I encourage you to use the teleconsultation with a gynaecologist - the service is available on our website in the e-visit tab:
