Can I reapply a NuvaRing that has fallen into the toilet?
20.00 zł

NuvaRing fell into the toilet while changing a tampon. Fortunately, it fell on paper, which could possibly be slightly soaked with water, and I realized it almost immediately. Of course, I washed it under water with soap very thoroughly and applied it.
Did I do the right thing? Is the risk of infection very high? I would like to add that there was neither urine nor feces in the toilet seat yet. Only blank paper

To maintain hygiene and make sure that the disc will work properly, it is worth replacing it with a new one and disposing of it.

The manufacturer allows situations in which the disc remains outside the vagina, but then recommends rinsing it with water – without the addition of detergents. It is not recommended to wash the disc with soap, as it is not known how this may affect its effectiveness.

In addition, reinserting the ring into the vagina after it has been placed in the toilet can increase the risk of genital tract infections. Therefore, it is not recommended.

The safest thing to do is to remove the disc and apply a new one. The new ring can remain in the vagina until the day of its planned replacement, and after a 7-day break, another system can be applied.

Here you can check the availability of the discs and make a reservation at the pharmacy:

If you are unable to consult your gynaecologist and you do not have another (emergency) ring, you can get a prescription at a pharmacy. More here:
