Hello. I've been taking dexak for degenerative hip pain for half a year now. Sometimes it's even 1 op. in a week, but it helps after a few minutes, so... However, I'm already worried about it because I've read that you can't go on that long. What is an over-the-counter substitute that works just as fast?

Information in the summary of product characteristics:
'Taking the medicinal product at the lowest effective dose for the shortest period necessary to relieve symptoms reduces the risk of adverse reactions.
Dexketoprofen is not intended for long-term use and treatment should be
limited to the period of symptom onset."
Long-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs such as Dexak can cause damage to the gastrointestinal tract with bleeding and ulceration of the intestines and stomach. In patients with cardiac disease, high doses of Dexac may cause heart failure to worsen. All analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs will generate similar problems, so changing one drug to another from the same group is unlikely to make sense. You can take a medicine containing Paracetamol on an ad hoc basis, but its effect is likely to be weaker than that of Dexac.
Treatment of pain associated with the occurrence of degenerative changes should be carried out under the supervision of a doctor. It is advisable to visit an orthopedist who will assess the condition of the hips and recommend specific solutions - surgery (very effective) and/or rehabilitation. In the case of chronic pain, the most important element of treatment is rehabilitation exercises - at the beginning under the care of a physiotherapist, later - on your own at home. Properly selected rehabilitation significantly improves the quality of life of patients with degenerative joint changes and makes it possible to reduce the consumption of analgesics.
