Will I be able to wear a Mirena IUD even though I have not had a menstrual period at the expected time and if pregnancy has been ruled out?

Hello. The contraceptive patch failed and I used the Ellaone pill. I'm supposed to get my period in about 2 weeks, then I was also supposed to put on the Mirenne IUD, but the last time I took the pill I missed my period. Will I be able to insert an IUD even though I have not had my period at the expected time and if pregnancy has been ruled out?

The IUD is inserted during menstruation because it indicates that the patient is not pregnant and because it is technically easier to do so at that time. If you have had a situation in which the contraception you are using may not be effective and you have used emergency contraception, it is best to contact your doctor before your appointment. The final decision will be up to the gynaecologist - if the bleeding does not occur on the expected date (and on the scheduled date of the visit), then most likely the doctor will want to rule out pregnancy in the first place before putting on Mirena.
