For tablets containing a combination of 2 mg cyproterone acetate and 35 mcg ethinyl estradiol (such as Syndi-35), the Pearl index for method failure is 0.12, while the total Pearl index, which also takes into account patient error, is 0.44.

The Pearl Index measures the number of unwanted pregnancies in 100 couples using a given method of contraception and having intercourse regularly over the course of a year. Without the use of any contraception, the Pearl index is 80-90.

It follows that when used correctly, Syndi-35 pills are an effective method of protection against pregnancy, and unplanned pregnancies occur occasionally. This is more likely to happen if you are not using the pills correctly (e.g. taking them irregularly or skipping them) or if there are factors that reduce the effectiveness of the medicine.
