If I had scant bleeding while taking birth control pills, should I rule out pregnancy?

I have been taking birth control pills for over a year now, but this time the withdrawal bleeding was very scanty, on the first day there was brown spotting, and then only a little red blood. He is very stressed about it, even though we always use condoms as well. Is it normal for bleeding to be so scanty or should I do a pregnancy test?

Usually, if the tablets were used correctly, very scant bleeding or a one-time lack of it is not a cause for concern and it is not necessary to exclude pregnancy.
