The causes of tingling in the legs can be different, so it is best that you make an appointment with a general practitioner who will try to determine what causes this ailment in your case. Tingling in the legs is an unpleasant sensation that can occur as a result of prolonged stay in a position that causes pressure on the limb (e.g. sitting with one leg on top of the other). Other reasons may be: burns, frostbite, injuries, poor diet (deficiency of vitamins and minerals). However, tingling in the legs can also occur in the case of peripheral nerve damage (polyneuropathy). Then we are talking about paresthesia, i.e. abnormal sensory sensations – in addition to tingling, it can be, for example, numbness, stinging, burning or the sensation of current passing through the body. Among the numerous possible causes of polyneuropathy, it is worth mentioning: *taking certain medications, *alcohol abuse, *poisoning with toxins, *malnutrition, *degenerative changes of the spine, *diabetes, *autoimmune diseases, *cancer. If the tingling affects only the lower limbs, the cause may also be, for example, restless legs syndrome. It is worth adding that tingling legs are also sometimes experienced by pregnant women (during this period there may also be other paresthesia, e.g. numbness of the legs).
