Good morning. After 48 hours of unprotected intercourse, I took an Escapelle tablet. I took it shortly before ovulation, which was confirmed by a positive ovulation test. My question is - is the moment when the LH peak has already occurred too late for this pill to work? Is there a risk of pregnancy?

Levonorgestrel taken quickly enough after intercourse is thought to work mainly by preventing ovulation and fertilization, as long as sexual intercourse took place during the preovulatory period. For Escapelle, there is no information on the effect immediately before the expected ovulation (when the LH level starts to rise). Such data are available for another emergency tablet - with ulipristal acetate. Regardless of the type of preparation, the time that has elapsed since the unprotected attitude to the receipt of the product is crucial. Contraception "after intercourse" is an effective method of preventing pregnancy in exceptional situations, but it is not a 100% sure method. The percentage of pregnancies despite the use of emergency contraception is approximately 2% (2 out of 100 women will become pregnant). However, this is only a statistical data, and the risk of pregnancy depends on many individual factors: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/tabletka-po-czyli-antykoncepcja-awaryjna https://www.gdziepolek.pl/kategorie/tabletka-po
