Pectodrill stosuje się w leczeniu objawów chorób układu oddechowego przebiegających z nadmiernym wytwarzaniem gęstej i lepkiej wydzieliny. Jest lekiem wydawanym na receptę, zatem o możliwości i zasadności jego zastosowania w danej sytuacji decyduje lekarz - w przypadku najmłodszych pacjentów korzystne jest badanie osobiste w celu oceny osłuchowej i ustalenia wskazań. Nie jest wskazane podawanie tego leku "na własną rękę", szczególnie u dziecka.
