Anafranil usually starts working within 2-3 weeks of starting treatment, while the full effect of the medicine is seen after 4-6 weeks (in some cases even later).
Anafranil may cause increased appetite and weight gain (which is m.in due to the mechanism of action of the medicine and the effect on certain receptors), but not every patient will experience this side effect. Lack of appetite has also been observed in clinical trials in some people taking this medicine.
