Good morning.
I have anxiety neurosis (I stopped seroxat 2.5 months ago). The neurosis has returned and my symptoms so far are palpitations, tremors in the body, muscle pain, sometimes it gets hot after performing an activity. The doctor has now prescribed me the drug asentra. I'm afraid to start using it, or will it intensify my symptoms?
Best regards

Paroxetine (the active substance in Seroxat) and sertraline (in Asentra) belong to the same group of SSRIs. Their action consists, m.in, in blocking the transport of serotonin to nerve cells. Then the concentration of serotonin in the central nervous system increases, which helps to alleviate the symptoms of anxiety neurosis or depression.
Sertraline acts slightly milder than paroxetine – it has a lower affinity for the serotonin transporter than paroxetine, thus leading to a stable and less intense increase in serotonin levels compared to paroxetine. It relieves the symptoms of neurosis, but causes fewer side effects, which is why it is usually better tolerated.
Therefore, please follow the recommendations of a specialist. The full effect of the therapy should be noticed after 2-3 weeks.
