The summary of product characteristics does not indicate a risk of hormonal contraceptive interactions with Metex. Combined contraceptive pills (when taken correctly) are a very effective method of preventing unwanted pregnancy. If there are no contraindications to the use of this type of contraception, it is an indicated form of protection throughout the treatment with methotrexate and up to 6 months after the end of treatment. Any contraindications should be discussed with the attending physician and gynecologist. You can also consider using an intrauterine coil or a contraceptive implant (then you do not have to remember to take pills - these methods are considered to be the most effective protection against pregnancy).
