Omeprazole (the active substance in Helicid) is a proton pump inhibitor that is mainly used to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, gastric and duodenal ulcers.
There is no direct evidence that omeprazole causes a significant increase in blood sugar levels. However, there is some research suggesting that the use of proton pump inhibitors, which include omeprazole, may be associated with certain metabolic changes, such as increased insulin resistance and the risk of type 2 diabetes.
