It is assumed that oxycodone (Accordeon) in a single dose of 10 mg is 2-3 times more potent than codeine (one of the components of Ultracod) in a single dose of 60 mg. In Ultracod, codeine is present in combination with paracetamol - this combination of both substances enhances the analgesic effect. This seems to be confirmed by the results of studies that have shown that oxycodone does not guarantee better pain control compared to the combination of codeine and paracetamol in patients with postoperative pain or orthopedic injuries. Given the greater addictive potential of oxycodone and the lack of evidence of its significantly superior effectiveness in the treatment of pain compared to the combination of codeine and paracetamol, the latter option is considered to be the first choice in this case. Accordeon is prescribed for the treatment of severe pain requiring narcotic analgesics. Ultracod is used to treat moderate to severe pain. The doctor, prescribing an analgesic, selects the preparation individually, taking into account the state of health, medical history and type of pain, so the decision on which drug should be used for it. Both medicines can only be obtained with a prescription.
