What research does the use of biotin affect?

Taking preparations containing biotin, especially in high doses, may cause false negative results of beta hCG concentrations. This applies to both blood beta hCG determinations and home pregnancy tests that detect chorionic gonadotropin in the urine. Therefore, the use of biotin should be discontinued at least 48 hours before the test. Other diagnostic tests that may be affected by biotin supplementation include, m.in, determination of thyroid hormones, vitamin D3, parathyroid hormone, prolactin, female sex hormones, insulin and cortisol.
