A single intake of 500 mg of azithromycin by a child weighing 27 kg does not pose a health risk. It should be borne in mind that, for example, during the treatment of erythema migrans caused by Lyme disease, 20 mg of azithromycin per 1 kg of body weight is used - that is, in the case of a child weighing 27 kg - 540 mg of the drug in a single dose. Thus, a single administration of 500 mg will not be toxic. It is known, however, that high doses of the antibiotic increase the risk of side effects - harmless, which include, m.in, slight nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, discomfort in the abdomen (pain, cramps), joint pain, rash. And requiring consultation with a doctor - e.g. transient hearing loss, severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Then you should consult a pediatrician. Usually 10 mg of Sumamed is used per kg of body weight, once a day, for 3 days. For a child weighing 27 kg - approx. 270 mg of azithromycin.
