The simultaneous use of preparations with escitalopram (the active ingredient of Nexpram) and trazodone (the active ingredient of Trazodone) may cause an excessive increase in serotonin levels in the brain. This threatens the occurrence of serious disorders referred to as serotonin syndrome. Some of its symptoms are fever, sweating, increased heart rate, diarrhea, (uncontrollable) muscle spasms, chills, increased reflexes, anxiety, mood swings, loss of consciousness. What's more, using these drugs together increases the risk of an irregular heartbeat. If these drugs have been prescribed by different doctors, it is necessary to consult whether the drugs are to be used simultaneously. Perhaps the recommendations regarding the method of their administration will be changed. If your medication has been prescribed by the same doctor, it is important that you follow the dosage regimen. If you notice any side effects, please contact your doctor immediately.
