Statins are the drugs of first choice for hypercholesterolemia, which is too high cholesterol. However, treatment is not usually introduced after the first abnormal result - first it is recommended to modify the diet (change in diet - less animal and some vegetable fats, quitting smoking, physical activity, weight loss if it is too large, treatment of diabetes, if it is, etc.). However, each patient is different - he has different concomitant diseases, is of a different age or may have too high cholesterol due to genetic conditions. On the basis of one laboratory result, no decision is made to introduce treatment (especially in the absence of any other information), since the results are not treated, only the patient. :) It is the doctor who decides whether the patient should already use the drug at this point or not. Of course, in the end, decisions are made by the patient, because it is the desire to treat that is the most important here. No one will control whether the patient is taking the pills at home. Sometimes patients decide to use dietary supplements that are supposed to help them, such as: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/43966/lipiforma-plus-kapsulki/apteki However, this is a dietary supplement, not a drug (like prescription statins), so by definition it can not treat, but only act as an adjunct. What is the difference between dietary supplements and medicines?
