Good morning. I have tested positive for COVID antigen for 11 days. The line is becoming more and more clear. I am on sick leave, there is a runny nose and a weaker mood, a slight scratching in the throat. I took Sumamed for 3 days, the doctor wants to extend to 6. Why does it take so long and why does the antigen test still positive?

A positive antigen test indicates the presence of viral proteins in your airways. In comparison with the persistence of symptoms from the upper respiratory tract, this speaks in favor of ongoing infection in the active phase. The duration of COVID-19 infection, as well as the type and severity of symptoms, are individually variable. In general, antigen tests after 7-10 days no longer show the presence of the virus, but this is not the rule and a longer persistence of a positive result is encountered, especially in symptomatic patients.
