Stosowanie antybiotyku w przypadku infekcji wirusowej nie jest standardowym postępowaniem, ponieważ antybiotyki są skuteczne wobec bakterii. Na temat uzasadnienia wdrożenia antybiotyku najlepiej dopytać się u lekarza - być może istniały inne przesłanki (objawy, wyniki badań), dla których takie leczenie okazało się potrzebne. Antybiotyk może być potrzebny, jeśli pacjent z COVID-19 wykazuje cechy nadkażenia bakteryjnego.
