Typowym symptomem choroby jest występowanie delikatnego rumienia w zaatakowanym miejscu, świąd i złuszczanie się naskórka.
Zmiany te na początku występują w obrębie owłosionej skóry głowy. Choroba może zajmować także – czoło, brwi, za uszy, na fałdy wargowo-nosowe. Może też dojść do zapalenia brzegów powiek. Zmianom tym często towarzyszy dokuczliwy świąd. Natomiast świąd okolic intymnych należy zróżnicować dodatkowo z infekcją intymną lub nadkażeniem skóry. Do najczęstszych należy grzybica. Tym stanom przeważnie towarzyszą upławy o białym, serowatym lub zielono-szarym zabarawieniu. Warto swoje wątpliwości przedyskutować ze swoim lekarzem rodzinnym, który podczas badania fizykalnego oceni wygląd skóry.
