Hello, I live in Spain. Today I received Prednisone 30 mg from an ENT specialist for a strong infection. For the first 5 days I have to take 90 mg every morning. Is it the equivalent of the Polish drug Encorton? Isn't the dose too high when it comes to infection? The doctor did not ask if I was taking other medications, but I was taking hormonal contraception - Cerazette and Euthyrox for hypothyroidism. Can these medications be combined with Prednisone?

Prednisone is the equivalent of the Polish Encorton – it contains the same active ingredient (prednisone). A dose of 90 mg at the beginning of treatment may seem high, but in acute inflammation (e.g. severe inflammation of the airways) such doses are sometimes used for a short time to control symptoms quickly.
In terms of interactions – prednisone can be used with both Cerazette and Euthyrox. These are not contraindicated combinations, but glucocorticoids can indirectly affect hormonal balance and metabolism, so it is worth observing your well-being.
Take this medicine in the morning, as directed by your doctor, preferably after a meal, to reduce the risk of stomach irritation. If you experience worrying symptoms (e.g. palpitations, severe weakness, stomach problems), it is worth consulting a doctor.
