If the test is performed too early, the result may be false negative (it is assumed that a result below 5 means no pregnancy). The test is best performed on the day of the expected menstruation (high-sensitivity versions will show a reliable result as early as 7 days after fertilization). If your test results are inconclusive, repeat the test after a few days.
