No, Rizmoic (naldemedin) is not a medicine intended to treat heartburn, peptic ulcer disease or gastritis. Its action is very specialized and consists only in the treatment of constipation caused by the use of opioid drugs (the so-called OIC) in adult patients.
The mechanism of action of this drug is based on blocking opioid receptors in the intestines, which restores their proper function, while not canceling the analgesic effect of opioids in the central nervous system. Using it in the case of atrophic gastritis or heartburn will not have a therapeutic effect, and due to the profile of side effects (abdominal pain or diarrhea may occur), it could even worsen the patient's well-being.
In the case of these ailments, it is necessary to diagnose and treat a gastroenterologist, often including acid-inhibiting drugs (PPIs) and vitamin B12 supplementation. If symptoms of heartburn or stomach pain persist despite the use of OTC medications, it is worth consulting a doctor for a full evaluation and appropriate treatment.
