As a pharmacist, I recommend caution when combining Mysimba (containing naltrexone and bupropion) with Paroxinor (paroxetine), as both drugs affect the serotonergic system.
Mysimba may increase the concentration of Paroxinor in the blood. This can increase your risk of worsening side effects, including a rare but serious condition called serotonin syndrome, which can include symptoms such as confusion, hallucinations, chills, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, chills or tremors, blurred vision, muscle cramps or stiffness, tremors, lack of coordination, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you observe these types of side effects, you should inform your doctor, who will decide on this basis what to do next.
Combining these drugs may also increase the risk of seizures, which may occur rarely with either medication. You may be more likely to have seizures while using these medications in the elderly, when withdrawing from alcohol or drugs, if you have a history of seizures, or if you have a medical condition that affects the central nervous system. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including vitamins and herbs.
