Black tongue is one of the very rarely reported side effects of Lanzul. Lansoprazole, also contained in Lanzul S, may contribute to the occurrence of the so-called black hairy tongue (BHT). The risk of its occurrence may be increased by smoking, as well as excessive consumption of coffee or black tea or improper oral hygiene. This condition may be affected by dry mouth, which is one of the side effects of the drug used. Its consequence is a change in pH within the oral cavity, abnormal exfoliation of the epidermis and the accumulation of keratinized layers on the tongue. The observed symptoms should disappear 1-2 weeks after discontinuation of the drug.

Lanzul S is a prescription medication and should not be discontinued without consulting your doctor. I encourage you to contact your doctor, who will recommend appropriate treatment, most likely discontinuation of the drug and implementation of another therapeutic option.
