For people with type 1 diabetes, there are several adjunct medication options available that can help with weight loss, but their use requires extreme caution due to the risk of hypoglycemia and other complications. Each of these drugs requires careful monitoring of blood sugar levels and adjustment of insulin therapy, so the decision to use them should be made in consultation with the attending physician. These include, m.in:
- GLP-1 analogues, such as liraglutide (e.g. Saxenda), semaglutide (e.g. Ozempic, Rybelsus) or tirzepatide (e.g. Mounjaro)
- metformin (e.g. Metformax, Glucophage).
